So you are walking through the hills of County Wicklow in pure hill walking bliss and you suddenly discover you have forgotten your compass. In close country you will find it hard to orientate your map without being able to find North - but don't despair! 

Use your watch - and here is how.

Hold your watch parallel to the ground.

Point the Hour hand at the sun.

Half way between the hour hand and 12 is Due South - so now you can work out North (opposite Direction) and East and West.
